Snow in Barcelona! I was indeed one of the luckiest tourists!

February 2018… I decided to have a crazy one-day trip, well not really one-day trip, but more to 6 hours in Barcelona from London! Sounds crazy? Of course, no surprise! Even for the Spanish people, it’s odd (or the word they use was “crazy”) to know anyone who would spend only 6 hours in Barcelona from London!

I did that crazy trip just because why not. LoL. It is good to have an unforgettable trip. And that trip was indeed unforgettable, not only for us, but also for our friends and their friends who have heard the story of our 6 hours Barcelona trip. 😀

We took the first flight to Barcelona that got us left house at 02:30 AM! Yup, it is AM, is the dark morning before dawn… We went to Barcelona with no plans, so we just walked around the city admiring the beauty of its architecture and surprisingly, we were welcomed with a very unusual event; SNOW IN BARCELONA!

I couldn’t believe my eyes it was snowing that day. I thought something just fell somehow from the sky that actually snow! Who thought there would be snow in Barcelona? That was one really amazing surprise from the mother nature indeed!

After walking around the city centre of Barcelona, we walked a little bit far up hill to get the best view of the city from above. There, when the snow started falling heavily! People started running outside and scream, “SNOW!!! IT’S SNOWING!!! ARE WE IN BARCELONA OR IS IT IN ARTIC??”. It was really fun and such a very happy day not only because I’m a big fan of snow, but also it was a priceless moment to see other people happiness of an unbelievable moment in Barcelona!

Barcelona is not the city where you can find snow in winter due to its geographic location, it has Mediterranean climate. The snowing day is very rare that makes it possible to be documented. The very heavy snowfalls happened only twice, first in Christmas 1962 and sometime in 1887. The last snowfalls before 27 February 2018 in Barcelona was on 23 February 2013. The other snowing day recorded happened in Barcelona are on 2 February 2012, 8 March 2010, 14 February 2010, 6 January 2009, 27 January 2006, 28 February 2005, 29 February 2004, 18 February 2003, and 14 December 2001. According to the history and these dates, the snowfall only happened once in each winter in Barcelona, so no one know when it will happen. Thus, it is extremely a very lucky moment for especially me who happened to visit Barcelona on the perfect exact day when the snow was falling only on that day in that year, and in few years. What I loved about Barcelona is its architecture. The city is full of magnificent old building with just a historical architecture. It has many small alleys where you can find small lovely coffee shops and bakeries with reasonable price.

After visiting Barcelona for a very short time, I don’t think 6 hours sounds that crazy, well, it was really exhausting because we can’t rest at all, but in my opinion, 2 days would be enough to enjoy Barcelona.

Although Barcelona is one of the very famous city in Spain, but it is not my favourite. If you’re reading this blog post because you’re planning to visit Spain, why not reading my other blog post about my favourite city in Spain, the beautiful Seville?
